Your plan

Drag your plan (PDF) hereor click to choose the fileThe PDF from your architect or draughtsperson, as it came from the drawing program (at most 30 MB). Scans and photos cannot be read.

How many storeys does your house have?

Please answer

Count the floors of the house, the ground floor included. The sizes of each floor come from your plan.

1. Is your stand flat, medium or steep?

Please answer

Look at the stand where the house will go and pick the picture most like it. No measuring needed.

2. Which bricks will you build with?

Please answer

3. Which roof covering?

Please answer

Choose one; it is included. You can add the others below to compare (paid option).

4. What shape is the roof? (optional)

We read it from your plan; this is only used when your plan does not show it. Look at the outside views of the house (elevations) and pick the closest.

5. Will the walls be plastered?

Please answer

Plaster is the cement and sand coat on the walls; it is listed in its own section (C. Plaster).

6. What is the soil like? (optional)

A soil report, your engineer, or neighbours who built nearby can tell you. Answering makes the foundation figures more certain.

Raft foundation sizes (optional)

Only if your plan has a raft foundation: one reinforced concrete slab under the whole house, deeper at its edges. Most plans say it is to the engineer's design and give no sizes. Do you have the engineer's foundation drawing?

Finishes (chosen for you: change any)

Ceilings, paint, floor tiles, skirting, gutters and more, measured from your plan. Each starts on our recommendation (the first option); change the ones you want different.

Ceilings
Cornice
Ceiling insulation
Floor tiles (every room)
Skirting
Window sills
Garage (when the plan has one)
Gutters
Paint: inside walls
Paint: outside walls
Paint: ceilings
Paint: fascia, door frames and doors
Door hardware (locks, hinges, stops)
Silicone round the frames
Plumbing (optional: we count it from your plan)

We count the toilets, basins, baths, showers and sinks from the rooms on your plan. Most plans do not show the pipes: we estimate them from the size of your house and say so on the estimate.

How will the water be heated?

Different from your plan? Give your own counts

Everything else comes from your plan. Where your plan gives a size in two different ways, we use the safer one and say so on your estimate.
