Terms and conditions
Version 2026-10-09. The key points first, in plain words; the full terms follow.
The key points
- Estimates, not quotes: Our quantities are estimates from your plan. Confirm them with your builder before you buy. A foundation must suit your site and soil, and anything an engineer designs (rafts, beams, double storeys) must be confirmed with your engineer.
- Our liability is limited: If an estimate is wrong, we are responsible at most for what you paid us for it, as far as the law allows (see section 8).
- Your plan: You confirm the plan is yours, or that you have the owner's permission to upload it.
- Personal information: Plans hold names, addresses and stand numbers. We use them only to read your plan and make your estimate, keep them for a limited time, and may store them with hosting providers outside South Africa (see section 9).
- Sharing your plan is your choice: If you tick "share my plan", we may keep it longer to improve our reader. While our free offer is on, shared plans are free; not shared, the normal price applies.
- Payments: By EFT with your reference. Your figures unlock once the payment shows in our account, usually within one business day.
- No agreement, no access: You need to agree to these terms to upload a plan.
1. Who we are and these terms
This website ("we", "us") reads house plans and estimates building material quantities. These terms apply to everyone who uses it. By ticking "I agree" you accept them. If you do not agree, you may not upload plans or use the estimates.
This is version 2026-10-09. We may change these terms; the version you agreed to is recorded with each plan you upload, and changes apply to plans uploaded after the change.
2. What the service does
We read the plan you upload (walls, doors, windows, floor area, roof and foundation notes) and work out material quantities by section: foundation, walls, plaster, roof and extras. Each line shows a quantity and a low to high range, and each section the assumptions we made. An estimate is for planning, not a guarantee: confirm the quantities with your builder before ordering.
Quantities are estimates, not quotes and not a bill of quantities by a registered quantity surveyor. Prices of materials are not included. We do not visit your site.
Some plans cannot be read (for example scans or photos, or plans without dimensions). Then we tell you why and do not estimate them.
3. Your responsibilities
Check the details we read from your plan and answer the questions honestly; wrong answers give wrong quantities.
Confirm the quantities with your builder before ordering. Confirm the foundation, any raft, beams, steel and anything for a double storey with your engineer: these need an engineer's design under SANS 10400 and the NHBRC.
Building work needs approved plans from your municipality. Our estimate is not an approval and does not replace one.
4. Your plan and copyright
You confirm that you own the plan or have the permission of its owner and its architect or draughtsperson to upload it and have it read. The plan's copyright stays with its owner.
You give us permission to store, read and make pictures of your plan to deliver the service, and, if you choose to share it, to keep it to improve our reader (section 6).
5. How long we keep plans
Uploaded plans are deleted after a set number of days (shown in our settings; 30 days unless we tell you otherwise). What we read from the plan and your estimates are kept so your link keeps working, without the plan file.
Plans you share with us that we could not read, or that needed a choice, may be kept longer (up to the period in our settings) to improve the reader, then deleted.
6. Sharing your plan to improve the reader
Sharing is your choice: tick "share my plan" when you upload. Shared plans are seen only by our team, to find out why a plan was hard to read and to improve the reader. They are never sold, published or passed on.
You may ask us to delete a shared plan at any time (section 12).
7. Free offers
From time to time we offer estimates free, for example to customers who share their plan. A free offer can end at any time without notice; estimates made while it was on stay free, with their options.
Free offers are for fair use: a limited number of plans per person per day. We may refuse or stop free use that looks like abuse.
8. Payments, refunds and our liability
Prices are shown and confirmed before you pay. Payment is by EFT using your reference; your figures unlock once the payment shows in our account, usually within one business day. You may upload proof of payment to help us match it.
If something is wrong with an estimate you paid for, contact us: we will correct it or refund you, in line with the Consumer Protection Act.
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses from ordering too much or too little material, delays, or building decisions made on our estimates. Our total liability for any estimate is limited to what you paid us for it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act that cannot be limited.
9. Personal information (POPIA)
We process personal information in your plan (such as owners' names, addresses and stand numbers) and the details you give us (your name, email and cell number) only to read your plan, make and send your estimate, contact you about your plan, estimate or order (by phone, SMS or WhatsApp), take payments, and, if you share your plan, improve our reader.
If you register your interest (our Register your interest form, or the form shown when we cannot read your plan), we keep your name, WhatsApp number or email, what fits you and your area, with the consent you ticked, only to contact you by WhatsApp, SMS or email about our service. We never sell or share them. You can ask us to remove you at any time, and we delete your details.
Your information may be stored with hosting providers inside or outside South Africa that protect it to a standard at least as high as POPIA requires. We keep it only as long as section 5 says.
You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it (section 12). You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
10. Fair use
Do not upload plans you have no right to, try to break or overload the service, copy our estimates in bulk, or use the service to collect other people's information.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
12. Contact
Questions, corrections, deletion requests or complaints: use the contact details on your estimate's report or our website. We reply within a reasonable time.
